This weekend was one of those weekends where I did all those chores that I hadn’t done and didn’t really want to do for quite some time. You know the ones I’m talking about. I did a whole laundry list of car work and yard work and ended it all by watching an interesting documentary.

The documentary followed a handful of Amish kids as they embarked upon rumspringa - the period of their life where they are released to the world (or as the Amish call it “the Devil’s Playground”) and must make their own decision whether or not to return to the Amish way of life and be baptized into the church. The ritual of rumspringa takes place after their sixteenth birthday and typically lasts as long as the young person sees fit. “Devil’s Playground” was an interesting - and surprising - documentary… definately worth your time if you are interested.

My other accomplishment for today was reading “Getting Real” by 37signals (creators of the framework Ruby on Rails). The downloadable PDF ($19) consists of short chapters documenting their philosophy on projects and project management. It was well worth the money I spent and gave me a unique look at their way of doing things and also gave me some great ideas for some projects I’m currently working with.
