You gotta love those weekends that just seem to drag out in that happy sorta way. This weekend was one of those weekends. Here’s the rundown…
Pulled Pork
I’ve said it in an earlier post and I’ll say it again - the pulled pork at Smokey Bones is hands down the best. G took me there for my birthday dinner and boy did I do it right.
Programming
Now a lot of people wouldn’t count this as fun but I was able to rewrite an app I’ve been playing with for oh so long from the ground up using Rails 1.2. RESTful routes, full user authentication, migrations, backend admin CRUD all done via Subversion. When I can con Mascaro into creating me a simple logo and layout I will put the app up.
I feel like this weekend was a breakthrough in my knowledge of Ruby on Rails - I was able to really dig in and learn a good many new things. I’ve been surveying quite a few web frameworks in the last two weeks in several different languages but I keep coming back to Rails.
My next learning experience is going to be trying test driven development. It’s always intrigued me but I’ve never really taken the time to dive in and actually try it. That will change soon.
Books
Mom got me a book and I purchased two more this weekend. Programming Ruby, Design Patterns, and The Money Train. All three revolve around web design and/or programming. I hope to have re-read my book on Python by the time these guys arrive in the mail.
The Wife
There is nothing I enjoy doing more than spending time with Glenda - especially chilling at a coffee shop even though she may hate it.
This weekend we got to spend a lot of time together - our last moments of life together before Kayla comes.
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Ah yes and I also made some time for the Wii. I’m about 2/3 through the game at this point - coming up on 26 hours of gameplay so far… whew where has the time gone. This game is totally addictive and fun. It makes you think. I like it.
And the weekend isn’t over yet…

Hey Birthday Boy, I got the concert tickets in the mail. You just need to have a talk with Kayla and convince her that she has to hold off and not come too early.
@monkeybutt - aww yeah dawg thanks - I was wanting to ask you first before you read my blog… I didn’t know you were an avid 72Mach1.com cult member. I’ll bring the kool-aid and tattoo supplies to work tomorrow.
@Holly - Yea!!! Remind me to write you a check for that. Aren’t you housesitting near us soon?
